How To Help Prevent Drunk Driving

The legal drinking age is 21. However, there are a lot of states that use safety precautions. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) asks minors not to consume alcohol. They also highly recommend parents to never allow their kids to attend or throw an underage drinking party. With these precautions and more, you might just save someone’s life.

Please take into consideration the following tips to help prevent drunk driving:

    • Having or volunteering to be the designated driver for the day/night.

    • Making sure someone in your group doesn’t drink, or someone will be able to come pick you up after you have been drinking.

    • Making your family and friends aware that they are able to contact you when they need a ride after drinking.

  • Calling Uber, Lyft, taxi, or other rideshare for yourself or for those who don’t have a ride home after drinking.

BE SMART. MAKE GOOD DECISIONS.

You can help your family and friends avoid drinking and driving by:

cans of soda and a couch

    • Make sure everyone who is drinking has a designated driver.

    • Have plenty of food for those drinking. Drinking when you haven’t eaten can increase what alcohol can do to you and your body. Try to avoid salty foods because they can make people even thirstier.

    • Serve non-alcoholic drinks as well, especially for those who are the designated driver for the night.

    • Cut off alcoholic drinks at a certain time.

    • Give those who don’t have a ride home to stay the night by you.

    • Collect the car keys of the guests drinking.

The power is in YOUR hands…please choose to be safe!
